Mathematics
Generation Ready math consultants are on the cutting edge when it comes to using research to support school leaders and teachers. We bridge the work in theory by working alongside leaders and teachers through job embedded collaboration. Creating goals with school leaders allows for a partnership to take shape in which data is consistently reviewed that allows for measurable results.
Math Professional Learning
Generation Ready mathematics engagements help educators to build their own content knowledge and pedagogy around mathematics instruction to meet the challenge of ever evolving standards.
How we help you bridge the gap
Rather than providing “quick fixes,” we engage deeply and systematically in a practical way that integrates learning theory into daily practice with a focus on practical application.
Generation Ready’s Math Professional Learning
- Provides teachers with modeling and on-the-job support
- Builds mathematical capacity in schools with a focus on coherence, common understanding, teacher/leader efficacy, and best instructional practices
- Deepens teacher, school staff, and leader knowledge of math content, of the Standards for Mathematical Practice, and of multiple assessment strategies including performance task development that help to inform instructional decisions
- Provides models of effective instuction and support for teachers and leaders
- Includes, but is not limited to, wrigint wirthin math, where students describe/explain math concepts and their problem-solving strategies
Increasing Student Discourse for ALL Learners
For students to develop the critical thinking skills and math reasoning needed, coaches plan, model, co-teach, and provide support to build instructional routines and protocols that increase student discourse in classrooms. Imagine math classrooms in which students are immersed in making sense of numbers, talking about math concepts and problem solving together instead of being told what to think and how to think.
Assessment that Drives Results
The time in which we have working with learners is invaluable. By being strategic and collaborating with teachers to implement checks for understanding and other means of formative assessments allows for differentiation in math classrooms.
Assessment for learning allows for teachers to shift the instruction so that all students are able to meet the demands of grade-level standards.
With assessment of learning, coaches support to collect & analyze data to identify foundational standards, grade-level or higher-level needs to be addressed, and model using data to inform dynamic student groupings. Working with data allows for teachers to maximize Tier I and II instruction, in addition to building proficiency and mastery of the standards.
Our Support
Generation Ready supports all levels of teachers and school leadership, and targets to assist with pedagogy as well as planning lessons that are high-quality and standards-aligned for content mastery. Generation Ready’s Mathematics professional learning support creates an environment for teachers to succeed.
Elementary
We believe a strong foundation of Mathematics begins with the development of number sense, conceptual understanding, and strong reasoning. We support teachers with key elements, from the design of their instruction to the essential principles of developmental learning, and with a centralized focus on problem solving to make sense of numbers and develop a deeper understanding of concepts.
In grades 3, 4 and 5, teachers often need support balancing conceptual understanding & procedural fluency, and digging deeper into domains that are assessed. Through modeling, side-by-side coaching, and support & planning with teachers, engagement & discourse increases which allows for learners to develop reasoning and number sense and leads to success in future grades.
Middle School
The shift to middle school brings a lot of change for students. As students transition from elementary, their understanding of mathematics is expanded and refined.
Middle school math plays a pivotal role in laying the groundwork for this progression. Our middle school mathematics consultants offer support in content, pedagogy, and using data to support & accelerate learning.
Middle school math looks to build on students’ fluency, critical thinking, and problem solving skills and learners reinforce their understanding of operations to delve into more complex topics such as algebraic expressions, equations, geometry and data analysis. Embedded support and professional learning is critical for middle school grades, which are pivotal years for secondary success.
High School
High School mathematics is extremely specialized, and our team of consultants in this field not only has expertise in instruction but also in the depth of content required at this level.
Our high school coaching support is targeted towards assisting teachers with planning lessons that are interactive and high-quality, using standards-aligned curriculum, and appropriate resources to build mastery of the content.
Teachers are also guided in their pedagogy to use the Eight Mathematical Practices to move their students from procedure and practice to conceptual learners.
