Coaching Cycles

To support teacher practice and student achievement, we create cycles of coaching to build knowledge and change practice. We start with relevant research, then use this research to plan for the curriculum or program in use within the school, district or system. Coaching cycles include the following elements to foster best practice, support implementation and embed long term sustainability.

1. Needs Assessment

A needs assessment is conducted with school leaders using Generation Ready’s Six Essential Practices for Effective Schools. Goals are agreed upon and action plan is crafted with clear targets.

2. Professional Learning

Based on the needs assessment, high leverage areas are identified. Consultants co-plan with leadership and teaching staff around the problem of practice.

3. Modeling

Following co-planning sessions, consultants model lessons in classrooms to highlight and demonstrate best practices. Cohorts of teachers come together to debrief moves and co-plan next steps.

4. Implementation

Teachers take ownership to plan & facilitate lessons with ongoing side by side coaching support and check ins to engage in a feedback cycle.

5. Review & Plan

Review implementation, and guide the cohort to revisit goals, status, and choose the next high leverage item to engage in planning for the next learning cycle in the next focus area.

Gradual Release of Responsibility

In all of our work, we use a gradual release of responsibility model, where we introduce new ideas and strategies, demonstrate how they work and guide teachers as they incorporate new strategies into their practice. We want to make sure that when we leave your classrooms and schools your teachers and leaders have the skills, content knowledge, and strategies to sustain the positive impact on student achievement. Our consultants guide you throughout the process and ultimately, watch you lead successful classrooms.
